Context

This isn't Kodak's first link to the game. AllHipHop reported that his older music had already been confirmed for GTA VI, which put his voice in the game's Florida-inspired world before this screenshot came out. A character built in his likeness goes further. AllHipHop noted that the details of the figure led fans to read it as Kodak himself rather than a loose parody. NBC 6 notes that Vice City is modeled on Miami and South Florida, with spots based on Ocean Drive, Miami International Airport and the Everglades.

Kodak isn't the only rapper attached to the game. Complex reported that Travis Scott name-drops the Jack of Hearts on his soundtrack song "RHYNO." Rockstar's 34-track launch-day album includes early singles from Future and Metro Boomin and from Travis Scott, according to AllHipHop. Complex also says Cardi B's "Don't Chart" is on the official soundtrack, and that Bad Bunny is one of the stars hosting in-game radio stations.

The news also comes after a better few months for Kodak in court. According to AllHipHop, Florida prosecutors declined in September to file charges in an Orange County MDMA case, citing insufficient evidence, and a Broward judge dismissed a separate fleeing-and-eluding charge that same month.

Kodak, whose legal name is Bill Kapri, is a Pompano Beach native and a staple of South Florida rap, per NBC 6.

What's unconfirmed

  • How big the role is. Rockstar's gallery doesn't name the character. AllHipHop, writing before the video came out, reported that Rockstar hadn't said whether Kodak voices a character, plays himself, plays a fictional character or appears in only one scene. The video NBC 6 described confirms he's in the game. None of the reporting we opened explains what the role is.
  • Who else shows up. Complex said it remains to be seen whether other soundtrack artists, such as Travis Scott, will appear in the game as themselves. Rockstar hasn't announced any more cameos.

We'll find out on Nov. 19 how big Kodak's part is. Who's the next rapper you want to see in Vice City?
