The short version

On Nov. 6, 2026, Macklemore named nine U.S. arenas, including Madison Square Garden, Barclays Center and Crypto.com Arena. He says they offered dates for his Free Palestine benefit tour, then pulled them once they learned what the shows were for. MSG told Pollstar he's "not an arena level act." No U.S. dates are booked, and he says he may take the shows outdoors.

Key facts

  • The nine arenas he named: Madison Square Garden, Prudential Center in Newark, Barclays Center in Brooklyn, UBS Arena in Elmont, Intuit Dome and Kia Forum in Inglewood, Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Chase Center in San Francisco and Climate Pledge Arena in his hometown, Seattle, per Pollstar.
  • His version: In the statement published by Consequence, Macklemore says his team had open dates at these arenas through the end of the year by mid-September. He says those dates disappeared once the venues learned the shows were Palestine benefits.
  • His words: "In over twenty years of touring, I've never experienced anything like this," he wrote, via Consequence.
  • MSG's response: A Madison Square Garden Entertainment spokesperson told Pollstar the company runs some of the busiest venues in the world with very little open availability, and that "he's not an arena level act," per Pollstar.

Macklemore says nine major U.S. arenas, including Madison Square Garden, turned down his Free Palestine benefit tour. He named all nine in an Instagram statement on Friday, Nov. 6, 2026, Pollstar reported. Madison Square Garden answered the same day with a very different explanation: it says he's not big enough to headline an arena.

Here's how losing his opening slot on Ed Sheeran's tour led to this.

What we know

  • The nine arenas he named: Madison Square Garden, Prudential Center in Newark, Barclays Center in Brooklyn, UBS Arena in Elmont, Intuit Dome and Kia Forum in Inglewood, Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Chase Center in San Francisco and Climate Pledge Arena in his hometown, Seattle, per Pollstar.

  • The other eight: Pollstar says it asked the other eight arenas for comment. Its story doesn't include any replies.
  • What's next, in his words: He says he'll keep working with other artists and organizers and may move the shows outdoors or onto stages his team builds itself. No U.S. dates or venues have been announced.

The timeline

  • Sept. 4, 2026: Macklemore makes onstage remarks during an Ed Sheeran show at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, per Pollstar.
  • September: He's removed as an opener on Sheeran's Loop Tour after venue owners told promoter Messina Touring Group they wouldn't go ahead with shows if he stayed on the bill. New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft confirmed he barred Macklemore from Gillette Stadium. Kraft said his venue is meant to be welcoming and shouldn't give a platform to hate speech, according to Pollstar.
  • After the tour exit: Macklemore donates his $1 million in Loop Tour earnings to six Palestinian relief organizations, Pollstar reports.
  • Mid-September: By his account, the nine U.S. arenas offer available dates, then pull them.
  • October: The Free Palestine Tour plays three sold-out arenas: Dublin's 3Arena, Paris' Accor Arena and London's OVO Arena Wembley. Hozier, Aurora, Paloma Faith, Kneecap and Portugal. the Man joined him, per Consequence. We covered the Dublin opener with Hozier and Kneecap.
  • Nov. 6, 2026: He posts the statement naming the nine arenas, and MSG responds the same day.

Context

Pollstar points out that a venue can turn down a show simply because it doesn't expect enough ticket sales. That's the whole gap between the two sides. Macklemore says the dates vanished because of the cause. MSG says it comes down to how much he can draw and how full its calendar is.

That's why he keeps pointing to Europe: three sold-out arenas and, he says, more than forty artists and speakers on board.

For fans, the practical answer is simple. There's no U.S. leg yet, and none of these nine buildings has said it will host one.

What's unconfirmed

  • Why the arenas said no. The only explanation from his side is Macklemore's own account. MSG is the only venue whose response has been reported, and it gives a different reason. None of the other eight arenas had a public response in the reporting we reviewed.
  • The "ban" framing. Variety's headline says he accused the arenas of banning the tour. In the statement we read, Macklemore says the arenas turned him down and wouldn't let the shows happen. No formal ban has been documented.
  • Any U.S. dates. Outdoor or self-built shows are an idea he floated, not an announcement.

Should Macklemore's Free Palestine Tour get U.S. dates, and where would you want to see it?
